5,000 Gallons Going Into Midland’s New 3-Sheet Ice Arena Midland, MI - July 14, 2005A truck containing 5,000 gallons of DOWTHERM™ heat transfer fluid will fill the new 3-sheet ice arena in Midland on Monday, August 1, 2005 starting at 8 a.m. DOWTHERM will keep the ice at the right temperature for hockey players and figure skaters alike. A solution of DOWTHERM SR-1 inhibited ethylene glycol-based fluid (a product donation valued at nearly $56,000) and water will be circulated in pipes at sub-freezing temperatures beneath the ice surface. The DOWTHERM fluid keeps the water from freezing solid in the pipe, prevents corrosion and breakdowns, and helps extract heat that builds up on the floor above. DOWTHERM fluid is also used at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, MI, home of the Detroit Red Wings hockey team. The location of the new Midland Ice Arena is about .5 miles west of the U.S. 10/ Bay City Rd. interchange. Reporters and photographers are welcome. For your own safety, please wear closed-toed shoes and pants, as the area is under construction. Please R.S.V.P. to Holly LaRose-Roenicke by 5 p.m. Friday, July 15 so proper protective equipment can be supplied.
